MEZZO-PIANO

For the medium range you have two symbols, mezzo-forte and mezzo-piano, "mezzo" means "medium" in Italian, the reason why we still use Italian words is because the art of writing music was developed in Italy about 1400's and we still use all the names and symbols they used back then.

If you have one "p" is louder than "pp" right? But at the same time "p" is softer than "mp"
